About

A studio shaped by culture, craft and the long view.

Film & Stage Studios develops and produces film, television, documentary, performance and branded work. We sit inside a wider Film & Stage organisation whose editorial and cultural coverage informs — but does not direct — what the studio makes.

Our Point of View

Taste is a discipline, not a mood.

We back work that has a reason to exist and a form that suits it. That means saying no to material we cannot improve, and staying with material long enough to find out what it is.

The studio's judgement is built on watching a great deal of work closely — across cinema, television, documentary and the stage — and understanding why some of it lasts.

The Film & Stage Ecosystem

Production, editorial and audience in one organisation.

Film & Stage Studios sits alongside Film & Stage's editorial and channel operations. That proximity gives the studio an unusually direct read on what is being made, who is making it, and how audiences are meeting it.

Editorial independence is maintained between the divisions. The benefit is intelligence and relationships, not coverage.

How We Work

Small rooms, senior people, clear reporting.

Productions are led by people who have delivered comparable work. Cost reporting is weekly and candid; creative decisions are protected by scheduling discipline rather than by optimism.

We would rather have a difficult conversation in prep than an expensive one in week six.

Global Collaboration

Working across, not exporting out.

We build teams where the work belongs, partnering with local producers, crews and institutions across creative capitals rather than transplanting a unit into a territory it does not know.

The studio works across international markets, festivals and cultural institutions. We describe these as collaborations, not offices.

Responsible Production

Duty of care is part of the schedule.

Contributor care, safeguarding, working hours and environmental impact are planned into the production before the first day, and reviewed as conditions change.

Sustainability measures are specified per production against the standards required by our partners and financiers.

We would rather have a difficult conversation in prep than an expensive one in week six.
